This is such an exciting time and a historical moment for Burkina.  After 27 years under the rule of President Blaise Compaore, the population had the opportunity to democratically select the president of their choosing among several candidates.  Congratulations to the Burkinabe and the newly elected President Kabore.

Blaise Compaore was ousted in October 2014 when he insisted upon yet another term.  The population hit the streets and won the battle, sending Compaore to exile outside of Burkina.  An interim government was put in place and doing well until an attempted coup took place in September 2015.  Once again, the population united and refused to stand down until the general Army was able to take over.  Soldiers convoyed from military camps throughout Burkina, and successfully put an end to the coup within hours.

Following the coup and prior to the election date of November 29th, all were apprehensive, hoping things would remain peaceful following such a turbulent year.  God’s hand of protection seems to be covering this little country surrounded by turmoil because peace prevailed and millions showed up to vote.  Let’s pray for this new President, that he will lead with integrity FOR the people, and Burkina will begin to see dramatic progress!
