Rainy Season
Rainy season typically starts mid-June and ideally, continues through September. Unfortunately, the rains often begin late or not at all; and at times they come with a vengeance. Year to year, one never knows what kind of crop will be harvested in November. It’s such a fine balance – obviously too much rain floods the fields and drowns the crops/not enough rain prevents the seeds from producing; and the population’s livelihood depends on this fine balance. God bless the farmers of the world!
In addition to “putting food on the table”, another advantage to rainy season is the cooler temperatures, at least until the sun heats things up again. The kids also enjoy the advantage of fishing in the streets – I haven’t figured out where these fish come from! The disadvantages are mud-brick homes crumble, dirt roads are wiped out, homes flood (including mine), and the mosquitoes feast.
Nothing compares to the advantage of food in the grain bins to sustain a family throughout the coming year so continue to pray with us each June for just the right amount of rain to produce a bountiful crop.
